With just one day remaining at the Paris Olympics, the competition for the most gold medals is incredibly close. The United States currently leads in the total medal count with 122 medals, which includes 38 golds. China, however, is right on their heels with 90 total medals and the highest number of gold medals, standing at 39.

Great Britain ranks third in the overall medal tally with 63, while Australia and Japan are tied for the third-most gold medals, each with 18.

On Saturday, the United States achieved a notable performance by earning 11 medals—five gold, three silver, and three bronze. This marked their second-highest medal haul of the Games. Significant achievements included the U.S. men’s basketball team winning their fifth consecutive gold medal by defeating France and the U.S. women’s soccer team securing their first gold since 2012 with a victory over Brazil.

With just over 10 medal events left on the final day, the U.S. has several chances to close the gold medal gap with China. Key events include the finals in women’s volleyball and women’s basketball, where U.S. teams are competing for gold.
